I have a '59 viking school bus. I dug out the silicone from the cowl vent to make it useful again, but of course, now it leaks whenever there is a hard rain. Does anyone know of a source for this weatherstripping, or know of a suitable replacement that would be functional?
I'm not sure if the other 1-1/2-2 ton cabs have this type vent, or just the school bus bodies. I am certain it's not like the vents on my '58 1/2 ton. It's more similar to the cowl vent on my 3/4 ton '38 chevy.
Also I need to find oil filter element. It has the huge canister that U-bolts to the manifolds. measurements would be great, part numbers even better. I'm trying to avoid hauling around a nasty goo covered filter element to my local auto parts if possible.
thanks in advance.

I think youve answered your own question,,pull it apart,,get measurements or a part number, or drag the nasty, goo covered, slimy thing to an auto parts store.
As far as the weatherstrip,ACE Hardware or similar usually carry foam weatherstrip tape, different thicknesses and widths. It wont be orig. but it'll probably work.

Thanks for the responses. There IS a part number on the element, but it is identical to an element for my '58 apache 283 filter, that I happened to have on hand.

What has me questioning if this is the proper element, is that the tensioner spring at the top doesn't rest on the the top of the filter element like it ought to. It drops into the element and just hangs there. Either there is a washer missing, or someone has replaced it with the wrong element. This is the reason I was hoping someone here would have a part number that they were certain of.

Having the wrong element in there would not suprise me one bit. I spent two weeks jacking around with the voltage regulator/generator, until I discovered that the generator had been replaced with a ford generator. After I finally realized things were bodged up, it was really easy to throw a '54 buick generator that I had laying around on it, and then installing the right size generator belt.
