I've been looking at doing one or the other and since I already have the entire rear in such disrepair, was wondering if it would make sense to start there and leave some room to adjust a 4 link. Since I'm living in OK, there's no point in dropping the ride height down so I'd like to remain as close to stock as possible. Was considering a Mustang 2 front end at some point in the future and 4 link with sway bar and coil overs for the rear. Neither are a real priority since I have wiring, driveline, brakes and gas line plumbing, and finally some sort of interior to work on first.

Martin would be proud of me for finally finding a U joint that mates the 66 rear end to the 52 drive shaft. Granted it only took 6-10 years, but I did it! I finally have the 4 ingredients in one spot that it takes to put these old trucks back together: the truck, the parts, the space, and the tools. Time and money were givens when I bought this, so I don't count them even though they're probably first and foremost on nearly everyone's list. Slow and steady and I may be able to drive it before I retire, but there's a lot of over/under betting going on that wager.

f18delta,

Welcome back after such a long time away (last post before today was 2017). wave

It may be that your new post might get moved over into the HiPo Shop forum, but will leave that decision up to the "Driveline Forum" moderators to see where it will best get you answers to your questions.

Your signature line says you are working on a "1952 Chevy 3604 Heina", but that web link seems to be broken as it doesn't display any pictures of your truck.

Perhaps you can post some new pictures in here? pix

Looking forward to seeing more posts from you on your truck.

Once again, Welcome Back! shake

Dan

We’ll look who the cat drug outta the woods. Good to see you back on the forum. Many changes since you’ve been gone. Start at the back while you already have it apart and gather parts for the front as you work on the back.
Send me a PM and let me know how the business venture went.

Thanks Dan! Appreciate the welcome back! Also updated the link so it should start working again. Moved the recent madness of me measuring and looking high and low for any and all numbers on that axle. Did confirm tonight that the U Joint will indeed fit the 66 side and will try to get the 52 side punched out tomorrow to check fitment there. Gonna save some cash up for the 4 link while I put everything back to mostly original to see how it sits and maybe drives later. Already have the spring perches ready to weld on once I get the correct angle on the driveline done.

Congrats on getting the pics link in your signature line back up.

A lot of pics there to peruse. Maybe when my granddaughter goes down for her nap - lol. 😁

And for posterity (and those crazy enough to try the same thing I'm doing), here's the info on both the 66 1/2 ton and 52 3/4 ton U Joint since I know good and well I got the 52 info from someone on here:

66 side: Universal Joint: Rear Drive Shaft; At Rear Axle; Rear Wheel Drive; With 3.219 Inch Outside Snap Ring Dimension; 1 Piece Drive Shaft; With 1.062 Inch Bearing Cap Diameter; Greaseable; With Outside Snap Rings; Diagram Position: 9

https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...3925/1966/chevrolet/c10-pickup-rwd?pos=2

Precision 331 for the 52:

Brand: Precision Universal Joint
Manufacturer's Part Number: 331
Part Type: U-Joints
Summit Racing Part Number: PCN-331
Universal Joint Style: Spicer 1350
Greasable: Yes
Solid: No
Bearing Cap Type A: Round Plain
Bearing Cap Type B: Round Plain
Bearing Cap Diameter (in.) Axis 1: 1.188
Bearing Cap Diameter (in.) Axis 2: 1.188
Universal Joint Material: Steel
Quantity: Sold individually.
Notes: Premium universal joint.

https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/pcn-331/overview

Combo of the two ends up being a Spicer 5-460X.
