I don't get the video. 30 seconds of welding is not going to increase the temp so much to increase the PSI in the tire that much? Then why would you weld on a wheel fully mounted and pressurized?

I have had a aluminum MC wheel repaired on a bike I used for track days. I had no issues with it for 8 years and the guy who bought it from me had no issues for another 10 years before the bike was scrapped.

Also had a friend who widened a set of steel wheels on his GTO. Cut them apart, welded and balanced pretty good. They are 30 years in and still going strong.

Good luck to anyone who ignores basic safety precautions- - - - -Forrest Gump's Mama said something about that, and it didn't involve a "box of chocolates"!

There are always the exceptions, like the 90 year old who has been smoking since he was 8 and never got lung cancer.

I'd be more concerned about melting the rubber on the tire bead. That's likely what caused the rupture in the video, as it appears that was where the failure was. Welding on a wheel with a tire mounted, either inflated or not, is just a DUMB idea.
Welding on a wheel without a tire mounted -- well, that's how they were constructed in the first place.

At the point of weld the metal is LIQUID so how much pressure can it hold?

Good point. You might wind up with molten metal blasted all over you. Another reason not to weld on a wheel with an inflated tire on it.
