I have a 36 gmc lowcab and I hung the windshield over the weekend. It needs a small adjustment to the right but that's not the question. As you see there is nothing between the inside of the frame and the top of the dashboard. Is there suppose to be some kind of seal there? the problem is when I close the windshield there is a gap there of about 1/2" . Also the seal dosen't close completly in the lower corners. So what do the experts think is going on?
When you close the windshield how much gap is at the center? I’m not to familiar with the year you have, but it looks to be similar to the 39-40 frame and cab windshield area. Did you assemble the frame? Are the top and bottom pieces that hold the two half’s of the frame curved?
It looks to be about 1/2" but I think if i adjust it to the right about 3/16' it might fit better. There is a '37 in town parked at an old smog shop and I stopped and looked at it and the gap is much smaller maybe 1/8". But the seal is original and I'm sure has shrunk over the years. We are going back east for a few weeks, so won't have time to do anything until we get back sometime in Nov. I'm not sure what you are asking in the second part of your post. It is an aftermarket frame and has the glass in it, but when I laid the new over the old frame they measured the same size. I will repost after i get it adjusted. I have a couple of Fisher body books for the early to mid '30's but they only cover passenger cars and have very little on the windshield installation and what the gap's should be. I will take a couple of pictures with the windshield closed before I adjust anything and post them when we get back.
