The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Window regulator help (1951 3600)

Awhile back my son took it upon himself to take my window regulators to work and have the parts re-plated. I can't complain about that, they are beautiful (too bad you won't be able to see them). However, he didn't take pictures during disassembly and I'm having trouble with the re-assembly of the crank shaft bits.

I understand a majority of what to do here, with the exception of how the spring is supposed to fit onto the crank handle shaft, and what kind of fit it is supposed to have inside the cover that gets riveted to the regulator frame. My take is that the spring has to be "pre-loaded" onto the shaft sufficiently that its outside diameter is smaller than the inside diameter of the cover, otherwise the shaft will not turn. I went through the motions and riveted the cover back in place, but when I tested the assembly with a handle, it was pretty difficult to turn. I'm wondering if there is an issue with the spring placement, or perhaps it's just an alignment issue.

Also, in the bag of parts I got back from my son was a fiber washer (just one, not one with each regulator). Does that fit into the assembly somehow?
