In the process of removing the trans, I bought the new spring and cap for the shifter base on top of the Muncie SM 420 . I somewhat remember someone telling me to push down and rotate 1/16 th of a turn on the “cap” or the shifter rod or? Brain fade seems like it is coming around more often! Thanks

All I've ever needed was a pair of channellock pliers. The shift lever and cap is spring loaded, so you'll need to soak the area around the cap with penetrating oil like PB blaster to break up any rust, then push down on the cap and turn it slightly CCW to disengage it from the lock pins. Then pull the shifter and cap straight up. Jerry
