Big "Face Palm" moment here as the kids say. It's been about 3 years since I pulled my rotten headliner out. All this time I kept the trim separate (or so I thought) and painted everything over the winter. Now, I also have a 1952 Canadian Pontiac (so a Chev body) Sedan Delivery that's been well underway this same time frame... bit of "foreshadowing" for ya there.

Upholstery shop did a nice job on my 49 AD headliner this week and so I figured I'd install it.

1) Center bow is missing, apparently. What I thought was my center bow was actually my rear bow... Center one was certainly there when I took it apart... If anyone has a photo of one of these center bows (I don't think the year really matters for this, I just need a visual so I'm looking for the right thing car vs. truck) that would be appreciated. I'm guessing that I've mixed some stuff up and it may be sitting in a pile of OT project parts.

2) I have a piece of windshield trim that I can't see on most of the diagrams for the early AD trucks (this being a two piece headliner) and I'm starting to wonder if it's actually from the 52 SD. If anyone can confirm this actually belongs in my 49 AD, that would be GREAT as if not then I can stop trying to figure out how it bolts in:

I should add: I DID take lots of photos at the time. But go back through em and you think any actually show exactly what I need??? Go figure

Thanks!

I think I see where that forward piece of trim goes. But not 100%

Is it possible that is your center bow and it just got bent (oops)???

From what I read in this earlier thread on '49 headliner installs if yours is an early '49 it would have had a screw mounted bow instead of the late '49 and later AD floating bow.

Yes/no/maybe so??? headscratch

Thanks Dan
Nothing is impossible! This one "appears" to have a machine brake bend (the slot for the cardboard is not squished) but yeah, nothing is impossible. The center bend looks too sharp an angle to belong in this truck - but also too sharp for my other project (same era, also GM and most things are pretty rounded). I am wondering if perhaps its actually out of an earlier vehicle altogether - possibly actually installed in my truck by someone in years gone by just to support whatever headliner they had on hand??

Yes there are screw holes in the center bow support and I "remember" (which is never a great thing to trust, I've come to learn) unscrewing those. I see the photo in that thread with a center bow and that looks like what I was thinking. It has to be around the shop somewhere!

Good luck on your hunt for the elusive missing bow. wink

If you have my luck, it will probably jump out at you about the time you found another and placed the order, or some such thing. dang

OK I think Gdads51 I believe you are right, that "unknown" piece is actually the "missing" center bow just with a nice bend perfectly in the middle. I straightened it out and the holes line up perfectly. It is slotted on one side only which confused me a bit but I think makes it an "early style". Anyway... problem solved. I think.
