I think one of the most valuable parts now is a straight cab, with no holes in it. Other stuff seems to be more readily available. As I understand it, the cabs are interchangeable at least until 1953.

The cabs are the same for 3000, 4000 and 6000 series trucks within any year. The 4000 and 6000 series trucks have different fenders, hood, inner fenders and related parts.

I've been told the grill bars are the same but the brackets that hold them in place are different, but I don't know the truth of that.

And of course there are running gear differences between every series.

Also be aware the '51 has unique doors. Turn-down handles with wing windows are a '51 only item.

My '47 2-ton has turn-down handles with wing windows. Are you sure only '51 had them? I don't know if the doors on mine are the original doors since the trucks been repainted about 4 or 5 times.

The Advance Design doors are interchangeable from '47 thru '53.. so you could take doors off a '51 and they'd bolt on a '47, which is probably what happened in your case.

It happens quite frequently.. either a previous owner preferred having vent windows, or the original doors were shot and they just found a set of '51 doors and put those on.

'47 thru '50 trucks didn't have any vent windows, and had turn down door handles.

'51 was the first year for vent windows, and retained the turn down door handle of previous years.

'52 was the first year for the 'push button' door handle.

One more important door swap detail is that the strikers are different for the push button door handles. Its easier to swap doors that have the same handle than to swap to different handles.

And yes Destry I am sure that only the '51 had both wing windows and turn-down handles.
