If I buy another 1 wire alternator it will only get used on the run stand and then it’ll just get boxed up and lay on the shelf. I’m cheap. I already have 4 good working older alternators laying around. I need to run this engine on the run stand for a break-in. My trucks both have one wire alternators and I don’t feel like borrowing one from a running truck.

I have some voltage regulators laying around. Can I wire this alternator using one of them?

Oooooooooooooops! This post is wrong. Upon further looking I think that alternator is a 10DN. These were the earliest GM alternators, first used in 1962. They DID have external regulators.

Wrong stuff here.
I'm having a hard time finding a Delco 5619 alternator internal diagram, but I'd bet the moderator's life that the alternator shown on your picture above has an internal regulator.

I'll keep looking.

A charging system on a run stand is totally unnecessary. Just run any sort of a generator or alternator as an idler to run the water pump, with no wires attached, and run a battery charger on the test stand battery to keep the voltage constant on the ignition system.

I don't even bother with a radiator or a water pump for a break-in run- - - - -just plumb a garden hose to the water pump inlet and let the warm water run out of the thermostat housing, without a stat installed. Control the engine temp by adjusting the volume of water the hose runs through the engine.

Excellent idea. I certainly can do that. I have a few voltage regulators in the drawer somewhere but this is easy. Thank you.
