Will the gauge in the dash continue to work after the conversion,. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2019 Posts: 2,242 Herder of Cats, Goats, and Sheep (moderator) | | Herder of Cats, Goats, and Sheep (moderator) Joined: Jan 2019 Posts: 2,242 | Which gauge are you asking about?
The answer is "it depends"
Do you have a completely stock cluster? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2019 Posts: 83 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2019 Posts: 83 | Yes stock cluster. Will the amp gauge work. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 2,187 Insomniac | | Insomniac Joined: Jul 2000 Posts: 2,187 | Yes, the amp gauge will still work if wired correctly.

You will get mixed answers on fuel gauge. Some guys say they did nothing and there 6v gauge runs fine on 12v but most don't have that experience. I chose to replace it with a 12v gauge. Most will just get a resistor to step down from 12v to 6v. Obviously oil pressure gauge is not impacted. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | There are 1/2 the amps on 12V. It will be OK and still show charge/discharge. Samples a small percent and bussbars the rest (shunt). If the amp gauge has a light, all bulbs must be changed including any dash light bulbs....and you probably know all the rest.

A #53 12v bulb would be the replacement, according to this.

What size 12 volt battery do you guys recommend? CCG? Group? Manufacture?? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2021 Posts: 6,688 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2021 Posts: 6,688 | Whatever fits in the spot you intend to put it. Get the dimensions of your battery box and start hunting.
Brand doesn't mean anything anymore but some people swear by Interstate.
More important than Group or dimensions are the Cold Cranking Amp figures.
