I now have it on a bench and am wondering what kind of gaskets/seals I should replace. Doesn't look like many places where oil could leak out.

If so it may need fresh packing or tightening.
My '31 has a packing gland but I'm not familar with a '35. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 261 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 261 | The only gasket on the trans that would leak is the transmission to PTO (6 cap screws hold the PTO to the side of the trans). Any other leakage would be in your PTO. I am not familiar with the Chelsie as I have both Heil and Garwood units. Not much to them only a seal to the output shaft and the gasket to the transmission.
34 & 35 trucks are the greatest

There 1/4 inch sloted bolts that hold this onto the tranny. Apparently sometime before me, this housing broke or cracked and has been welded. I noticed what appears to be a oil leak. You should be able remove the bolts and slide the gland back on the shaft and add a couple of rings of packing like water pump packing and put it back together. Snug the bolts down fairly tight but not tight enough to break the ears off the gland, which is probably why it has been welded. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 100 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 100 | I got my ends of the tranny backwards.....the end with the problem is the engine side. This is the bearing retainer that the throw out bearing fits on. Some how it was broken and has been welded.
