(note to site moderator; think I in the right forum? Gen. truck talk?) carb question for a stock 1953 chev 3800 model B carb, 216 eng.

Hi guys,

I'm rebuilding my carb and have a vac passage question.

1. I see two vac passages in the float bowl:

a) at the bottom of the pump discharge port.
b) at the top of the port, where the guide spring and ball go.

Where do the passages end up, so I can blow them out? I dipped carb and blew out all other passages. This new dip I bought is mild. Stuff I used before was in a 5 gal pail and caustic as all get out. and don't breathe or touch, it was way hard on the skin.

Surprise Department as an fyi. In the bowl cover assembly fuel inlet fitting, on the female side, I found a helicoil and much teflon tape. No fuel filter parts found. Slop job, threads look ok. Got out the tweezers and mag. glass. Cleaned out lots of tape shards, and dipped it. Put the fitting nut in finger tight, feels good and am thinking all will be good when installed, oh yeah. If leaking, I'll go to plan B.

Thanks for the help you guys, somerust

If Plan B is to buy a Carter YF, I'd change that to Plan A.

somerust,

I have moved your question to the Engine Shop as that is the better forum for your question.

Am sure other fellow Bolters with knowledge of the passages in the float bowl you asked about will come back and offer the details you seek to answer your question.

Good luck on resolving your carb issues. thumbs_up

Hopefully this will help answer your question about passages:

Teflon tape is for household plumbing - not for fuel systems.
