sub57,

I sent a reply to your Parts Wanted ad with other info based on an initial search of the GM Parts books I had at hand, not knowing about this casting number.

Now that you provided this casting number info, it turns out that that part has had a number of different GM Part numbers assigned to it.

Original GM# 3697701 shows as both the casting number and part number, after the originally listed GM# 3718011 (casting# 3707340) appears to have been replaced by it in early 1958 (I think?). Was listed for 1955-62 and some early 1963 1/2 ton axles.

GM# 3697701 was later replaced by GM# 3854311 (same part and application for 1955-62 and some early 1963 1/2 ton axles) - just a new part number.

GM# 3854311 was later replaced by GM# 3867832 (again same part and application as before) with another new number.

GM# 3867832 has since been removed form the parts catalogs as no longer available.

On a bit of good news, check out your Parts Wanted ad as I have added a new reply with a possible source I found after all this research.

Hope this is clearer than mud.

Dan

Outstanding to hear that!

Are you (by chance) thinking of taking pictures and writing notes as you go through the assembly and reinstallation process??? headscratch grin

I detect an opportunity for the makings of a very useful Tech Tip! thumbs_up

Looking forward to progress reports and pictures as you may be able to share.

If you run into a question or concern, come on back and ask away! Very sure help will be available pretty quickly.
