I have searched around trying to locate what's called in the picture below, a 'Spring Cup'. Haven't found one in any catalog or doing a web search. Any ideas?

I can make one in a few minutes with a big flat washer and an arbor press- - - and -even use Kasenit to harden it if necessary.

This one says it is for a GM SM-420 transmission. And at $18.77 it'll be a lot cheaper than the oven Jerry would need to heat the one he could make in a few minutes to 1650 degrees for the Kasenit process.

Two words, Bill- - - - -"rosebud torch"! I do it all the time on gunsmithing projects. It gets plain old mild steel hard as woodpecker lips!
LOL!

The parts from Transmission Parts Distributors was just the right ticket. It did come with a boot which I assume is probably for a Jeep but I thought I'd see what it looks like. What do you think boot or no boot. And thanks for the input on all this.

I'd go with a boot just to keep grit and dirt out of the ball and socket.

Question, did you do this because something was broken, or because the shifter had lots of wobble?

My 3 speed is as loose as ... well you know. Have not dug in there but suspect the ball has worn. Shifts fine but you almost have to reach out the passenger window for 3rd and 4th.

I kinda like it though.

No, this truck was in pieces when I got it with lots of stuff missing haven't even had it on the road. Hopefully it will shift well. It doesn't feel loose
