Okay... Heres my problem I just bought myself a 1953 chevrolet 3100 and of course you know the vin is on the block and also on the truck, but I have a newer 1957 engine in my truck. Do I have to put my original engine back into my truck to prove that it is mine to the dmv
p.s. i do have a title to the truck

The VIN # on the title should be the same one that is on the door post for a 1953

That depends entirely on the state. Many (if not most) states titled these trucks with the engine number rather than the door post ID number.

I would think if you have the engine, & put it in the back of the truck for the inspection, they can get the numbers & be perfectly satisfied.
unless they're a buncha dinks, always possible

I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things.
But thats just MY opinion!

In Missouri I put historic tags on mine.
No inspection required, just proof of insurance and a good title. They didn't check any numbers on the truck.
The tags also don't have to be renewed unless you get the custom tags.
The drawback is I had to go to the Truman building in jefferson City to get it done and I am limited on how many personal miles I can drive it each year.

When I lived in Missouri, I just took the paperwork down to the DMV and waited in line for 2 hours and they issued the plates. I do know that when I brought my 47 3/4 ton into Nebraska (from Missouri), and a 1963 1/2 ton (from California) and a 1967 Ford (from Kansas), all they looked at was the cab plates. My 47 was missing the plate so I had to get another before the "inspection". I stamped the number on the title into the plate - it din't match the motor, but MIGHT have matched the original cab. I THINK the 63 also had the number hand stamped above the driver's door, in the frame.

OK Thank you because that would save me a lot of trouble not having to put the old engine back in

53cheevy - red 58 asked if the VIN on the title matches the serial no on the body or the engine?? A 53 3100 VIN/body no will start H53....A 53 engine number will start LBA...Good luck.

yeah, if the title has the engine number and you have the engine, you wouldn't hafta put it back in, just prove to them it's been changed, and they'll change the number on the title
