Looking for the spindle socket to fit the front axle on the 1/2 ton NAPCO so the wheel bearings can be seated and adjusted correctly.

I make my own spanner wrenches for those nuts by welding pieces of square key stock to a piece of water pipe, or even exhaust tubing. Drill a hole in the other end of the pipe for a piece of round bar for a T handle. Use the nut as a template, clamp the key stock into the slots with a worm drive radiator hose clamp, and slip the pipe into place before welding or brazing the key stock. It might be necessary to grind the outside diameter of the pipe a little to get a snug slip fit inside the square pieces. You might need to do a little filing or grinding on the tabs to get a good slip fit to the slots in the nut.

If you're not inclined to make your own, check your FLAPS or truck parts store for a selection of OTC sockets.

The guys who spent a third of their paycheck on the Snap-On tool truck every week used to have a good selection of those sockets. The rest of us made our own specialty tools!

You can probably rent the socket at your FLAPS, if you don't want one to keep. Pretty common and readily available. I've had one since the early '70's. Like Jerry, I've fabricated a number of special tools.

Again, if someone isn't inclined to make their own. At least they now know there is an option to acquire one. Better than junking a vehicle for lack of the tool.

Example, you won't find this bearing installer on the Snap On truck. For installing the bearing on the cart, in the background.

What does the bearing go on?

And how much was that hunk of metal from McMasster Carr? Did it come as a cylinder or did you have to machine it into a circle?

Yes. Is it for a Ferris wheel hub? Locomotive turntable?
