I picked up a part called a "Stromberg Condenser" at parts table at the local truck show. Did a google search and couldn't find out much information about it. Looks like one might plug the coil wire into it, and then that plugs into the distributer. Says "Easier Starting, Smother Running, More Power, Less Gas". Anyone have any info on it?

That's a pretty neat item for an old parts collection... assuming that it is inoperable.

Another quality post.

Pretty nice that Bill found the patent plans. Looks like it is basically a small transformer. It sure is a curiosity item. I'll put it with my kerosene oil pan heater.

Yep,JK is just kidding. I wouldn't want to try it. Probably catch on fire. It has a 1934 patent date. It is pretty cool looking. I wonder if a lot of people tried it back in the day. If it worked, it would probably just give you a hotter spark. I'm not sure where it goes in the ignition system. Not that it matters much, but it could be either be plugged into the top of the coil or the other end of the coil wire on top of the distributor. I see Stromberg makes an electronic ignition for Ford flathead V8s, that looks like a points distributor. https://www.stromberg-97.com/distributors/e-fire-2-bolt-6v-positive/

Oh. I wasn't kidding though.

Put it on your truck and see if it does anything it claims to do. I would. I'm sure it's all nonsense though.

I serviced a lot of cars back in the 50-60's. I never saw one or heard of it. It is an interesting part.

It likely does increase the voltage when the spark actually gets to the plug. It does that by adding another gap that forces the coil voltage higher before it can make the jump across the spark plug gap. You can get the same effect by widenng the spark plug gap. But It really doesn't help much and may shorten life of plugs, coil, and other components.
