what am I missing. turning over to slow to fire.

I had someone put wrong field coils in a golf car motor (24v instead of the needed 36v) and it went like gangbusters, so fast it almost bounced the guy out of the seat on the golf course, going the other way would cause your slow turnover. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,774 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,774 | Try cranking the engine with a 12V battery, or just use jumper cables from a 12V vrhicle for a short burst to see how the starter reacts. It's not a fix, just a troubleshooting tool. If the engine cranks noticeably faster, PM me for some guidance on doing a "series resistance test". It's a bit too complex to describe on the open forum with a dozen others arguing about how, or if the test should be done.

Clearly something didn't get done right for you to be able to stop the starter gear with your hand.
