The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Cab body stripe

Thanks to Kevin Hansen for getting me the info on stripes for the wheels on my '50 Chev. Now I am looking for dimensions, position, etc. for the stripe that circles the cab just below the windows. Any info is appreciated.

I have some pictures that show stripe and measurements for a 54 from sanding down original paint for a "forensic study".

Ah, so. It would appear that the stripe should live just below the windshield wiper hole. That gives me the dimension I need in relation to the crease below. Thanks for the info.

Here's the pics I mentioned having, Jim. This was on a 2-ton with original paint that I looked at.

No dimensions, but you can probably figure it out from the pics in relationship to the reveal width.

Kevin, that is absolutely spot-on for what I needed. I couldn't remember how high on the roll profile the stripe sat. I'm thinking that the stripe should be approximately 1/4". My plan is to lay down 1/4" masking tape, then lay down a narrow tape on either side of that. Pull the 1/4" and get after the painting. Thanks a million.

JIm, one of the guys, I think it was Mark (MNSmith), recommended shooting a first coat of base color along masking, so the bleed thru wouldn't show up, then follow with your stripe color. It was in reference to painting tailgate lettering, but the process would be the same.

I've seen those original pinstripes located considerably higher up on the beltline. No surprise to me, since these were hand painted at different plants, and over eight years of production.
You really can't do it "wrong" in that sense.
