I have a 1953 Chevrolet 3600 pick up and would like some confirmation. I was under the impression that the electrical on the Chevy trucks was negative ground and GMC was positive ground. A 1953 gmc truck is negative ground on the north ones because they have everything chevy under the hood and the instrument cluster is also all chevy.

The pickups simply followed suit to keep everything in the brand uniform. Back in the dark ages, commercial truck manufacturers preferred positive ground for some reason. In 1957, all the automotive makers standardized their electrical systems at 12V negative ground. Some commercial trucks stayed with the positive ground for some time afterwards, such as the 64 Freightliner I drove for a while.
