Looking for any first hand thumbs up ( or not ) for the Yukon Duragrip for late '60's 12 bolt truck. Truck has a mild 454 with Muncie 2.52 first gear & 3.08 final drive. Not looking to race , just good overall traction for street use.
Anyone with personal experience with the Yukon Duragrip ? It's one of three common designs- - - -friction clutches, cone clutches, and positive locking devices such as the Detroit Locker that actually locks the axles together mechanically. You'll have to learn a new driving style, as once the lockup happens, the vehicle will go wherever the rear wheels are pointed- - - -like off the road to the outside of a turn if you apply enough throttle to activate the locker. They're handy in mud or snow, as long as you adapt your driving style to the altered handling characteristics. Jerry

Also have a Spicer Power-loc in my 1960 Chevy C10 (has a Dana 44 rear axle from 1960 GMC) which works well. Both have good manners on the road. I also have Yukon designed no-spin in my 2000 K2500 with 10 1/2" rear axle, that one is somewhat squrley on the road but really great in the hills.

Not sure who made your Yukon designed unit in your K2500 & if it's similar to the Duragrip.
Thanks for the general overview , HRL. I've used plenty of posi oem units over the years including in my present DD 2014 Ram 1500. In yrs past I've had a Detroit Locker in a 427 Ford full size car , a Dana 60 in a 426 Hemi Cuda plus plenty of lesser powered cars & trucks. But they were all oem supplied units. I've never used an aftermarket posi so was interested in anyone with real world experience with this particular brand & model before hitting the buy it now button. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 1,452 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2011 Posts: 1,452 |

That truck is really heavy, with 5.38 gears, and I m running a double transfer case with 40" tires. Sometimes it s about wheel speed, and I ve had 40's spinning up to 60mph and snagged a rock. Sure, it pitches the driveshaft, but I ve not torn up a truetrac as of yet. It sees a lot of street time as well, and a heck of a lot of trailers have been pulled with it. I ve ran truetracs for many years. In fact, I had some air selectable lockers in my last crawler, and went with a truetrac in my latest one just because of the simplicity, and the fact that I usually don t even notice that its back there on the street. As a side note, regardless of what kind of truck that you have, the transfer case to use is a np205. I ve even put them in 2wd trucks that I wanted a lower selection of gears. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2023 Posts: 374 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2023 Posts: 374 | I ve beat on the truetrac in the Dana 80 in my rock crawler. My C 10 is a 2WD. For my purposes, I think I'll go with the Duragrip. It seems to me that the lockers are more geared for off road, where as the clutch type units are more general use & street friendly. | | |
