Got a question for you pros:

Can you recommend a place to purchase GOOD quality braking components for this application. Ive looked on Rockauto and some other sites, but they dont really specify this truck. Im not sure if the 3200 series have the same braking components... Is there a kit to replace it all that you might recommend. Ive been thinking of going disc in the front but want to get everything operational first. Finally started digging into this project and getting excited.

Rovertech,

Just a note that the 3200 is the same as the 3100 when it comes to brake components.

Original GM Part number for 3100/3200 wheel brake cylinders:

Left Front = 5455478 (1/18" diameter)

Right Front = 5455479 (1-1/8" diameter)

Rear (both left and right same) = 5455486 (1" diameter)

If you do a web search, you will find these available from most of our usual vendors. If you look at Rockauto, just use the 3100 info to search and you will find what you seek.

Are you saying you have a 3200 or 3100? Either way, I just looked at RA and they list wheel cyl and master cyl and rear shoes for both models. Some components are listed as fitting "base model".

I recently replaced wheel cylinders, master cylinder, and brake shoes with Rock Auto parts. They were all Dynamic friction brand. They all seemed to be decent quality (such as it is today) and have worked properly so far.

I saved the original USA made master cylinder for future rebuild. There are companies that will rebuild your original components if you don't want to do it or can't find the parts. They'll also reline brake shoes.

If you want to go the rebuild route and don't want to do it yourself, check out these people:

Here is a screenshot from the GM Heritage data trove for brake data. The "31-32" denotes the "3100 and 3200" series models.

Part numbers came form a search in GMpartswiki.

BTW - You're most welcome for the info. Just sharing knowledge. thumbs_up
