Single rear wheel

Step side box that dumps (well it doesn’t yet nor does it run)

Could you order a dumping box from the factory?

I love the flared box sides.
The belt hydraulic pump is a real direct approach.
I wonder if the box was designed for sugar beets?

I’m in northern Illinois

When I saw belt driven pump I thought aftermarket

Thought factory would be driven off trans

The belt driven pump with the big activation knob poking through the dash looks exactly like the one my 1948 3800 has. My dump box, however, is a single hoist and the box is ready made, completely, somewhere in the US I suppose. It was designed to have the stock fenders mounted on the aftermarket box. There is a manufactures tag on the outside LF corner of the all steel bed.

The seller said some older Uncle had passed on and the 48 made it to him. His story, as told to him, was this PU was ordered with No bed and when it arrived in eastern MT, the rear fenders were strapped to the frame. The Chevy dealership installed the dump box on it. It was used for grain hauling.

Is that info on the door what it looks like -- it is this "Rt 1" ... ?

After closer examination actually someone else saw it the lettering is MONROE CENTER IIL

As far back as I know history a car dealer Jack Wolf got it

The 9' bed was standard on the 3804 models. Looks like the flared sides are add-ons. The dumping mechanism is also add-on/after market.

Jack -- You bet. Here are some photos that might help -- these show how the bed looks on all 3804's, and how your truck would have looked, coming out of the factory. Also, it was fixed to the frame -- no hoist mechanism.

Anything beyond this configuration (as on your truck) was added at some point after it left the factory. Unless you have some documentation, it will be very hard to say for sure if this was a dealer add on or a post-sale upfit that the truck owner did at some point. Your add-ons look professionally done and not farm shop "agri-engineered."

There might be some literature floating around out there for that company. There were a lot of companies, most regional, that offered up-fits like that.

Widths varied. Use the position of the bolts/holes in the cross sills. There would have been 9 boards on your truck. The boards would be a nominal 3/4" thick.

I need an education about the box inside the engine bay mounted where the brake MC is found. I see a rubber hose going into it.

Is that for some type of vacuum assist ? Curious minds want to know.

Possibly a hydraulic fluid reservoir for dump cylinders.

I have a '50 L134 (3800) Canadian truck with a dump box as well. My box lift system looks like the same as yours except my hydraulic pump is PTO driven off the transmission. You have a nice truck.
