It's pretty easy to take the wheel off so take it off and compare the two. You'll know right away whether the new one will fit.

| | | | | Joined: Mar 2014 Posts: 4,479 Moderator, Electrical Bay | | Moderator, Electrical Bay Joined: Mar 2014 Posts: 4,479 | You probably already know this but there is a steering wheel puller which is merely a 1/4" thick piece of steel with two non-threaded slots and one threaded hole in the center. You screw the proper bolts into your steering wheel (feed them through the slots in the puller), tighten so the thing sits level and then screw in the center bolt. It pulls the wheel off neat as anything. Then to replace it, make certain your wheels are pointed straight ahead, put the wheel on in the proper orientation and tighten the nut/lock washer. Don't lose your horn connecting piece in the process...

Still have it today, it was a long time ago
And if the steering wheel is so stuck on and rusted
And you fear stripping out the bolts or twisting them off
Once it’s all tight under pressure
Hit the center bolt hard with a hammer and it will pop loose.

I just replaced my '49 truck steering wheel with a 1952 Chevrolet car steering wheel and it works great. Pay particular attention as to the plastic hub of the '53 wheel, it pries off gently. Note the screws holding the horn ring and the contact pieces underneath, they have to be assembled in order so take picture notes. Disconnect battery or you might get intermittent horn sounds.
