in the kick panel. Can I splice into the regular speaker wire like you can electrical wires? I have an additional speaker set that I would like to add. The speakers that I have are underpowered and a shop said it would be a thousand dollars to upgrade. If I turn them too much I get feedback.

It shouldn't be a problem to connect a set of speakers in parallel with the existing ones except that you would be changing the load impedance. That may or may not be helpful. The joints of course must be insulated so that they don't short out.

By feedback I assume you mean distortion. Distortion or distorted sound can be caused by an over driven output amplifier or an impedance mismatch between the output driver circuit and the speaker.

The shop I took it to said it was underdriven. I thought it was overdriven.

I don't know what those terms are referring to. If the amplifier output stage is properly matched to the speaker load, it will operate correctly up to a certain output properly within the defined maximum distortion parameters. If there is a mismatch, it will not. If a speaker is driven with more power than what it is designed for, damage can occur.

If you parallel the speakers, it will reduce the impedance by half. so if you have two 4 ohm speakers and add two more 4 ohm in parallel it will be 2 ohms presented to the radio amp. It may play forever or may blow up. But it will be louder for that time span.

Add them in series and they'll act like 8 ohm speakers.

But half as loud and not efficient.

True, but unless you are running a monster amp of some kind 8 ohms is a lot safer than 2 ohms on a 4 ohm system.
