I am installing a power steering to my truck. I am on the final stages. I need to remove the column and wheel drive and then dissamble the old system as to remove the geared part and use part of the old column and wheel drive. How can it be accomplished?
Any tips on dissambly will be appreciated.

Hello lazyduck15

Are you wanting to use your stock steering column and adapt it to a power steering gear-box?
There have been discussions on that topic before. All you will need to do is do a search here on the stovebolt and I believe you will find out what you are looking for. You may find some other ideas as well smile Most involve cutting the steering column outer tube and leaving the internal shaft at a longer length so an end piece can be fabricated onto the shaft. there is a bearing that will fit over the internal shaft and inside the column tube. Then you can mate the end of the steer shaft with a coupler piece to match the coupler on top of the power steering gear-box.
Make ABSOLUTELY SURE of your measurements BEFORE you start cutting

Thanks Mechainiac. You are absolutely right, I am trying to adapt it the way you described. Please give me a hint on those previous topics where it was discussed.

If you look at the top right of this page you will see "post new topic" and "post reply".
Just below that it says

Click on the search and try different ways/words to search (steering column, column conversion, steering box conversion, things like that)

Type in steering column conversion and see what you get. If it does not work, let me know.

Thanks a lot mechainiac. I will look for previous ads. On the other hand I removed already the drive wheel. It is cracked a little. Is it repairable?. Chances are some glue like those that say "liquid steel", and so forth.
