I am wondering if anyone has bypassed the rear brakes on a mid 60's big bolt? I got my 65 C60 and the rear hardlines were trashed... but I need to move it around at my house and need something to stop it. I was just going to take the hardline going to the rear brakes off of the master cylinder and plug it....but I am unsure if that will work or not since it goes into the booster gizmo under the truck. Can anyone give me a little guidance?

Ok, I don't really know for sure, but I sure don't see why not, just for yard moving and soforth. The hydroboost will never know the brakes are being pressed, and the fronts should stop it fine.

You can do this , but i was thinking that the hydro runs to all the brakes, or should have. You should be able to plug it at the rear axil right before it splits left or right.

Was just eyeballing my shop manual, only covers up to '59 tho.
How many lines come out of your master cyl? Dont know if there was much change from '59 to '65, but if it's a single outlet, the line should go from the master to the HydroVac booster, then to a T fitting.
Assuming that is correct, if you disconnect the line going out of the T to the rear brakes and plug it, you should have front brakes.
Again, dunno if there was a signifigant changem hope that helps in some way. smile

I dig all cars, old and new, whether they were hammered out of American iron, German steel, or Japanese tin cans. Being unable to appreciate them all is missing out on a world of great things.
But thats just MY opinion!

I,ve done that for emergency use. Out in the field I cut the tube & bend it over. It got em home.

attached to the bottom of the master cylinder is a t fitting with a 1/4" line and a 3/16" line coming out and both going to the hydrovac booster thing. i am wondering if it shares a line or chamber inside the booster since i am still pushing fluid from the rear hardline where it got screwed up. i will try and get some pics of how it is setup if it will help.

Cut it loose beyond the booster and close it off by bending the line or take it loose at the T connection and plug that hole.

Rolling and pinching of the steel brake line may not hold up to the pressure of your system and you might see some fluid leaking from your pinched line.

Check here and you can see what I did on my 61 c60 which has the same setup as your truck.

Hpoe this helps,Hobert

You can put either a brass or steel rivet inside the line and then just screw the fitting back in the tee, leak free and easy to remove.

i plugged the line heading to the rear axle and managed to get some braking pressure, problem is i cant bleed them since the bleed valve on the drivers front is stripped.

just to make sure i am doing it right, i do need to bleed the brakes with the truck running right?
