I seem to remember someone telling me to drill a small hole or two in my thermostat prior to reinstalling it. Sadly, I can't remember any of the details of size, location, or the reason for doing it. Please refresh my memory. Thanks

1/8 inch in the circular “disk” that opens/closes coolant flow.

Mike,

Perhaps this rather old thread on the subject may provide the memory jog you seek? thumbs_up

Some thermostats have a "jiggle pin" that allows air to vent while the cooling system is being filled, and closes the hole off as coolant starts to flow when the water pump starts it circulating.

I drilled a 3/32” hole in mine. It purged the air out of the system and doesn’t seem to effect the cooling whatsoever.

If you don't have a small drill handy wedge an aspirin in the thermostat to hold it open and it will dissolve after purging the air from the system.
