This truck is my first project and I have a question. Is there a way to improve my braking and still keep my 8-lug axles? I know if I swap to a half-ton front axle, I can get disc brake kits from lots of places, but part of the reason I bought the 3600 was to have something a little different. I have heard you can drill and slot the drums and add a power booster. Is this the best option, or is there a way to add disc brakes and keep my 8-lug axles? Thanks for any help you can give me. At 39, I finally got my project to work on and I am very excited. OLD TRUCKS RULE!!!!!!

How much better do you need it to get?

I ask because you might be able to update to Bendix type brakes and metallic brake linings and get a tremendous improvement.

Thanks Grant and OlSub. I'll do some checking on this info. I just need brakes that will keep up with all the newbies moving to Colorado until they learn that you need more than 50 ft. to stop when someone cuts you of and then hits their brakes. frown
