Thanks guy's it seems like it is taking forever to build but I guess it just anticipation I am feeling as I approach the one year mark :p .
ShovelheadDon; Yes I think I am going to let her roar stating with an X-pipe feeding too a couple of Flowmaster 3" 44's and exiting beside the cab through dual 4" chrome stacks with Peterbuilt style heat shields. This should sound really good with the Comp Cams roller specked at .510 .510 lift and 270* 276* duration. cool
Oh I can't wait to hear her run! grin
Ya Steve it's all good when it's HOT RODDED wink

Yeah Grant that's the truth!

I just bought a '54 GMC 1-ton Hydro-matic that is mostly original. I feel like I should leave it that way but right now its parked in my shop about 10 feet away from a Cadillac 500.

I may not hot rod it this year, but I know it will happen...

I have had troubles finding a suitable transmission for this truck at first I was wanting to run a fuller 6 speed however I have not been able to get the cost of this swap below $5000 and I just won’t spend that much nor can I at this point. Now after much research I believe I have found a cost effective alternative in a 5 speed over drive 3053A Spicer. Here is a link to an article that spotlights this swap I am sure that there is many Big Bolters that will find it the answer to there gearing whose.

Grant,
Did you get a booster for your break system and a new master cylinder?

Yes I did and I thought that I had posted pictures of it but it seems as if my mined is slipping. I got the setup from ABS power brake service in Sept of 06 so it has been sitting on the floor for better than a year I got to get my but in gear huh. Anyway I took some pictures of it for ya.

Here is the Hydro-booster and master cylinder with mounting bracket, it will mount under the frame and use the stock pedal

Today I went out and pulled the SM420 transmission form my 57 6400 parts truck I will be using it in the 56 6100 for a wile till I can afford the overdrive transmission I want. The 420 from the 57 looks really good inside but I am thinking I mite rebuild it anyway, the one from the 56 is now in the 64 because the one in the 64 the small gear on the countershaft was wasted but the 64 transmission has the heavy duty ribbed case so I may use the countershaft from the 57’s transmission to rebuild the one from the 64 with the heavy duty case and use it.
Tomorrow I will pull the 496 back out of the 56 install the flywheel and clutch and reinstall it with the starter and get it ready to fire up I have to find some one with a digital video camera so I can get some video for you guys. Anyway I need to get this truck going I need it, I just hope I get the chance to finish it the right way after I put it to work.

Thanks Joe but that is not the stock shroud in the 64 and it fits like crap. I know an HVAC guy who I will have make a good aluminum shroud for it. Not sure what I will do for the 56 yet I have to take a step back and start going at her one step at a time. I was going so fast for awhile and that was fine when the money was good but I have reached a point where things need to be re-evaluated.
