Can someone point me to a manual or something that shows me what all the knobs and switches are for inside the cab of my 49 3100 ?
Also a wiring diagram of engine bay / firewall would be very helpful as well .
I wasn’t born until the 70s so im not real familiar with the controls in the cab .
Thanks in advance
Ron

What? You mean all 3 of them?

The silver switch on the top of the dash by the windshield is the windshield wiper switch.

The only other knobs on the dash (besides the radio controls if you have one) are the choke knob and throttle knob. Choke is on top and Throttle is on bottom to the left of the radio and above the ignition switch.

The throttle is sort of a primitive cruise control to keep the engine at a certain rpm while running farm equipment or using the truck as a harvester or something so that the driver didn't have to keep his foot on the gas. Also useful in winter to bring idle up while warming the truck without having to sit in the cab with your foot on the gas.

Do you have a factory shop manual? They are plentiful on ebay for $15 - $30 for original used ones.

Have a look at the old car manual project. Here's a manual for 1952 models - 1949 will be similar.

Ron,

Your best option to get some essential info resources is to invest in some reproduction manuals, ie; Owner/Operator, Shop Manual and Factory Assembly Manual (FAM).

They are all readily available from various vendors for reasonable prices for the most part. Others will chime on here soon on some suggested vendors that are known to provide quality publications.

There are also a bunch of web sites with a great amount of resources to help you with your new to you truck.

Here are just a couple that I use on a regular basis:

http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/index.htm

https://xr793.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1949-Chevrolet-Truck-R.pdf (specific for your '49 - they have many others)

https://xr793.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/1949-Chevrolet-Truck-Engineering-Features.pdf (also specific to your '49)

https://www.gm.com/content/dam/comp...hevrolet-trucks/1949-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf (another '49 specific)

http://www.gmpartswiki.com/query (a search engine to aid in tracking down original parts identification, description and some pictures of your truck parts)*
* This one you will need to learn how to use.

Lots to get you going here. Good reading!!!

Dan

Here is the clean link from above, sorry Otto, you are giving away tracking data when you don’t trim urls
Same goes for many other popular sites

https://www.ebay.com/itm/334803331299

The rest is is all tracking data so eBay knows what Otto was doing all day on his computer and also allows eBay to make a link to anyone who uses all the tracking info
-s

Edit: I should practice what I preach
Updated with more trimmed off the url
It only needs the item number and I wasn’t paying enough attention lol

Of course the one on the far left missing its knob is the light switch.

Wonder what the cigarette lighter looking knob to the right of the brake release handle is for. And the knob below the ignition switch....Heater switch?

It looks like the headlight knob (which is missing).

On my 47 3600 with the deluxe heater, it was the defroster cable. I moved it to the dash where the choke casble was and moved the choke to the throttle cable spot.

It does appear to be attached to a cable.
