Does anyone know if the original front emblem on a 52' 6400 was painted as the reproductions are? The reproductions look like the one pictured below (as you know) with the blue and red letters and chevy insignia. I've seen alot of pics of trucks that have been restored to "Original" specs, but the emblem is all silver or chrome. Just want to keep it as original as possible.

They were painted originally. Through the years, the paint would were off. I've owned several trucks that still had tracings of the paint left, & have a couple of NOS front emblems, that are painted. It was a semi gloss paint.

Thanks Spanky. I'm getting close to putting some paint on her(Primed and Ready) and it got me to thinking about it. So I'm gonna polish up the old Emblem and get out the artist brushes and have at it....

There are decal sets available, for the emblems, if you're not confident with your artistry.

What I did once with a tractor emblem: covered the painted letters (which took patience and a lot of time...Maine winters), then smeared vasaline over everthing else, removed the masking tape, rattle can painted the letters and wiped off the vasaline. Came out pretty good.

Spray can is definately the way to go. I use a technique somewhat simular but just tape off everything other than the area needing paint and go. Use the blue tape and you can get it in various thicknesses.
