I finally got my 52 6400 on the road. Wow what an experience. I've driven so rough riding trucks before but this takes the cake, I love it. It's loud, rough, primitive, etc.. I suspect it very similar to a WWII tank.

Regarding the rearend I'm not sure if I'm currently in high or low. I have a lever and moved it back and forth but nothing happened. I suspect there is a technique but I have no idea what it is. Please help.

Its easy, you drive, turn the two speed knob to the left, lift your foot off the gas, count 1001,1002, and step back down on the gas. It should shift to high. You should feel a little tug when it shifts, and the engine rpms should drop slightly. Alot of times they stop working because of a vacumm leak, someplace in the steel lines running to the back end. If the holes a big one, then the engine will run rough at idle. Another place they go bad is at the bladder located on the diff case. This is a little harder to fix, but not impossible, its just a lot of little bolts that ussally break or have to be cut off. Once inside you find the rubber bladder, that decays over time. I've replaced it with a piece from a rubber boot(the thin kind you slip over a shoe) and had good luck with that. Also sometimes just the shft get gummed up and needs to be cleaned.

I may be confused here; but I have always shifted into LOW by going to the left, and HIGH to the right.
The only time I ever double-clutch is if I am split shifting (ie: using the transmission and the 2-speed in combination)

A vacumn shifted diff, does not need you to push the clutch in while shifting. This info is on the shifting decal, that was part of the truck orginally. You truck may have the lines switched, making you go left to right, but my shift plate clearly shows the lo on the right and the hi on the left.

I remember the decal on the 52 I drove when I was 16 years old: "Driver need not de-clutch".
I did check the 2 speed shift, and it is maked Low(on left) and High (on right).
