I’m looking for a picture of the correct id plate for a 1940 Chevy PU. I see that a number of venders sell them but they seem to be different as to what and where the info is stamped.

Be sure you check with the powers that be (your state DMV) on replacing a serial number plate. To do otherwise could lead to real problems legal-wise.

It is illegal  to remove/replace a vehicle serial numbered VIN or data plate in most if not all states to the best of my knowledge, with only a few special circumstances which are covered by each states applicable laws. Please check with your state (Florida) DMV before taking any action on this topic. You will hopefully be able to avoid any "Legal" issues before they happen. Dan

I had the NYS title and resignation in my name.
BUT
The door-frame VID-plate that had been removed and replaced by me when the Suburban was painted. He could tell that the attachment hardware was not original.
The DMV officer did not have to offer me the opportunity to obtain a bonded title; but, I have so much documentation he was willing to offer me this option/opportunity.
He actually visited my house/garage. He had told me that there was a code stamped on the frame - I told him that no code was stamped on frames until 1956. I showed him the frame on the 1954 5-window pickup (with Hydra-Matic transmission) that is in primer and is ready to paint. I could move the cab (to see the frame) because all parts are in primer and are ready to paint.
I hope they will let me get a bonded title for that 1954 5-window pickup, too. | | |
