Does anyone have a pic. of the correct air cleaner assembly for my 1953 Chevrolet Panel Truck 3100 216 cyl. i bbl carb ?? and also if possible would you happen to have a pic. of the correct oil filter canister assembly correct for my truck and the proper loction (pic.) of it ?? Thanks for any help Guys.

The oil filter canister was a dealer add-on. There were a few options. Mine was an AC S-2 version (the larger canister) and was mounted on the inner fender on the driver's side. I JUST saw a pic here on Stovebolt of another truck with the bracket like mine has. I'll see if I can track that down again. Before today, I hadn't seen the mounting bracket like mine. Some were mounted to the intake manifold in front of the carb. There's a Tech Tip on the different variations of add-on oil filters.
[on edit] Can't find that picture again. But a pic of my oil filter and bracket is attached.

Here's a picture of one of the air cleaner styles. This has a paper element in place of the steel mesh element.
It seems like the oil filter mounted on the intake manifold is a lot more common than those on the inner fender. I've never seen the fender mounted style in person.

I would agree with Otto on the oil filter mounting. I've only seen mine and the photo I mentioned seeing with on mounted on the fender.
Here is a tech tip on converting an oil bath filter assembly to dry filter.

Here is a screenshot taken from the 1929-54 Chevy Master Parts Listing that shows a good black and white engine pic that includes the standard "oil bath" style air cleaner assembly most often found on 216's and 235's.
The air filter in Otto's reply as he noted was originally an oil impregnated cleanable and reusable mesh style (before being converted to a replaceable paper element).
Your choice on what you decide to use on your panel.

Here is a picture of both an oil bath air filter and a correctly mounted by-pass oil filter on my ‘52 with a 235. To my knowledge, they would both be correct for your ‘53 216.

Here's mine... both air breather and oil filter taken from my old tired '53 216 and installed in the same location on a replacement 235.

I’ve only ever seen the 2 pint oil bath filter like phak1 posted Maybe in Canada it was standard equipment on all the trucks And early trucks had a metal arm coming up from one head bolt to help hold the air filter which has a welded stud to bolt it to that arm(1950 model for sure) By 1953 the 2 pint filter has the support stud removed and is fully supported on the carburetor. -s

HEY!!! Are you saying my oil filter isn't correctly mounted????? I can't see that a 2 quart S-2 filter would be "correct" if mounted on the manifold.
BTW, you need to DRIVE that truck and get some road grime in that engine compartment. It's almost too pretty.

Kevin, since your filter is so tall, would it even fit on the manifold without interfering with something else? Maybe the larger filter canister was used on the big trucks or semis?

Otto, I think the S-2 was originally used on the bigger trucks. I believe the Tech Tip on oil filters mentions that. I think it would fit on the manifold without interference, but hanging something that heavy on it might cause problems. It has two straps around it that fasten it to the bracket.

He also asked about oil filter and location, so it's a 2-part thread.
I think we've given him options for both air cleaner and oil filter.

For anyone thinking well outside the box, I added a spin-on filter on the passenger side of the engine after thinking about what to do with the blank-out plate for the fuel pump (since I rely on an electric pump). I ran the lines over and below the crankshaft and out the blank-out plate, mounting the filter on an unused side motor mount location. The 2 nice things about this is I can also use the by-pass filter if I wish and the spin-on filter is really easy to get to on the passenger side.

Probably. A lot of those 50s cars had huge "mufflers" on the front of the air cleaners to reduce engine noise.
