Hello all, today I picked up this engine, can anyone help identify what year it is? Can anyone tell me what this pad, on the right side, just in front of the fuel pump was for? Thanks in advance.
Got a block casting number? Based on photos alone looks like it’s from a Canadian car the serial number stamps font 9 and 6 are rounded leg style and the 5 is a nice bubble round on the bottom, both details of the Canadian stamping vs the USA straighter font used And the format of the number itself matches what you would find in a Canadian car, trucks usually started with XC for example and a car was a C number -s

No clue what the pad is for But if it’s a late 50s engine it might just be where the factory air conditioning pump might be found , just a wild guess The casting number will be close to that pad unless they had to move it far away to accommodate that new pad feature -s
