I'm having a tough time locating a side plate gasket for a 1942 235 truck engine. This gasket is huge, the entire side of the engine including the spark plug access holes, all covered with a fitted tin cover. Does anyone have a part number for this gasket?

i think what youre looking for is a 216 side cover gasket. try asking for one from the early 50s and see if that fits. if you can,,take your side cover with you to the parts store to help match it up.

Also, don't forget about gasket sheets. I think Napa sells them in various thicknesses so you can just make your own.

Dale,

NAPA has the gasket you're looking for and Delux54Panel is correct.

You'll need to tell them you want one for a 216. None of their books show the early splash 235's.

I ran into the same problem, when I was searching for the gasket for my 48 235.

You have the Fel-pro part number supplied by 3B , it doesn't get much easier than that. Even the kid with the purple hair and silver nose ring should be able to find it for you! eek

Dale,
I may get corrected on this. But I believe the 235 wasn't produced until 47. Then only standard in the 6400(2 ton) and an option for the 4100 (1 1/2). A 216 was used up till then. The side cover covering the plugs was only on the 216. Getting a 216 gasket for it is available from Napa.

The military used 235s all through WWII. There were 3 different 235 engine blocks from 1941-1948.
