I finally got a master parts manual in today and managed to obtain the part numbers I needed which conveniently are no longer available so liquid gasket maker it is! I'll close the loop on that thread shortly with the parts numbers in case someone searches and comes across the thread. I will say that it has been oddly quiet in here this week.

I happen to have 3 new old stock lifter bodies that have an original grind on the lobe surface to go by ,they are probably 50 years old given to me by an old teacher of mine. From what I've seen not surethe re-grinders are getting the grind that is needed for long cam service. Any ideas on what is needed ?? | | | | Joined: Dec 2018 Posts: 2,451 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2018 Posts: 2,451 | klhansen Question on tin ware are there any cabs up in cold country where you are ?? Looks like clean original straight tin ware is the best way to go. My corn belt area should generate some big bolt trucks that are clean , last stub nose 51 I looked at would have been a big job to get back into shape ! Know of just one barn find truck (3100) been in the shed about 20 years. I happened to think maybe your area would have some task force iron laying around from the alaska hiway, have you seen ahything like that ??

Will be about 22 degrees in the morning,no problem. Finally getting some sun to soak up the gloom, got a 272 + .080 (261) short block on the stand need to work up an 848 head for it,fresh guides are in it,10/10 shaft ,fresh rings. Went to see my crank grinder man,he is OK need to take him a core and land a shaft and bearings before it gets any tougher. | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 4,392 Gearhead, Stovebolt Tech and Parts Tracker, Mod for Swap Meet and GTT | Gearhead, Stovebolt Tech and Parts Tracker, Mod for Swap Meet and GTT Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 4,392 | fixite7, Be sure and post in the Spotters Alert forum and report on that 3100 you came across. Know you always work your "Big Bolts" like they were designed for it. Maybe you could post some pics???

There's some around, but they're kind of hiding out in the trees (or in some cases "around" the trees.) I looked at a 2 Ton that was for sale a number of years ago, but wasn't in the market for one. The cab wasn't in much better shape than mine was, so it wasn't even a good parts truck.

Been cold raw and windy here.Gdads51 better day today 2/20/23 gonna go roll my 51 3600 thru see if it will start about 55 degrees out,be back. Fired right up has been since dec. 14 th,brakes pumped up too. Got a new master cylinder from Carters quite a while back, don't think it has that soft seal in it because it leaks off the residual. Anyway ran fine no expensive noises.

Using his camper and my truck, left Michigan on Thursday the 9th, drove 800 miles the first day into Nebraska, then to Moab. We're now camped at the Valley of Fire north of Lake Mead. Next leg will be to Death Valley where my son will plan to meet us and camp for a night. We'll then start making our way back to Michigan, weather will dictate the route to some degree. Internet has been spotty, especially in Canyonlands, and Bears Ear Utah.

I don't think dead people are on *this* site. IMHO. Fix ... we just got to see some pictures!!

Funny. Some of the posts could go in the Driving or What done or Using truck threads. Or the Spoon! You and Mike can sort it out.

Engine/Trans/Differential from the 1994 Chevy 3500HD donor truck now in place. Next up will be the front end upgrade to disc brakes, mostly using the Grigg suggestions in the sticky at the top of the forum. IF my recipe works, I will share it. But it is getting hard to find the steering arms for the 3500HD or P3500/P30 front axles with steering behind the axle like the COE.

Ed Hi Ed, Thanks to your help, I did manage to find a set. My point is, while not impossible, it is hard to find P30 Steering parts anymore. Getting harder to find used 3500HD parts as well, new are available. Its not impossible, but when you embark on the journey laid out by Grigg, patience and persistence is key. I hope to start on my front steering in the next couple weeks and will try and document what I used, and what worked and didn't. if successful. Marty | | |
