Does anyone have a line on a Chevrolet parts manual that covers the Chevy trucks (C10 thru C80) from the era? Im not talking owners manual, shop manual, or assembly manual, but the real deal parts manual with every factory part number for every configuration of truck option. I can find every kind of manual on the internet except for this.

I know they exist but I cannot for the life of me locate one. I will owe a beer, or whatever beverage of choice, to anyone who can point me to one.

Assuming they are impossible to get hold of, what do you do for tracing down parts numbers?

HFfarms,

If you absolutely must have a printed book, you will have to search the web (primarily eBay) to watch for sales as they do come up occasionally.

As Gord noted above, the "GM parts wiki?" link is a great source, but some find it difficult to search if you don't use the correct words/information for the parts you are searching for.

An alternative in the form of a CD can be had here (not mine) Chevrolet Parts Book. They are also available elsewhere, just do a web search and you will find them. Prices vary depending on seller.

You just need to have a computer with a CD/DVD capability (or you can purchase a remote CD/DVD device to connect to your computer like I use with my laptop).

There are currently a number of CD/DVD devices available on line through Amazon for less than $35, which are simple plug and play units.

Good luck in your search! thumbs_up

I have used the wiki in the past with decent luck for light duty and squarebody parts, but have only ever struck out with respect to older medium duty.

I did come across that one, but it was out of stock everywhere I looked for it. It appears to be in stock at the link that Gdads51 posted, up until I added it to the cart.

I cant believe that I overlooked ebay. A quick search shows a lot of used manuals to sift thru. I came across a '55-'64 medium duty manual, and then a '46-'72 medium duty manual that I went ahead and snagged. I figure I should be able to reference between both for part numbers based on years and crossover applicability between models.

Is there a specific reference process any of you use for long discontinued part numbers? An example would be the pinion seal on my current '64 axle. The OEM PN became obsolete in '65 and was superseded by a new PN that was only good until '72, but cross references to a new PN from SKF and NATIONAL which can still be sourced. Is there a conversion bible to be able to trace parts like this, or is that going to be dependent upon the current parts distributor (like SKF for seals) to make that map? Just curious on this.

HFfarms,

Congrats on scoring the manuals you found. thumbs_up

As far as a "conversion bible" existing, none in my experience to date. There are a couple of web sites that I have come across that do seem to provide some cross references between part numbers and current manufacturers info, but are not all-inclusive. They usually focus on the specific repair products involved (ie; bearings, seals, etc.). One that has proved at least a little useful is https://www.finditparts.com/ . Although the site title says Heavy Duty truck and trailer parts, I have found several instances where I found current manufacturer part ID info (most often using the original GM numbers) that included down to the 1/2 ton truck size.

The search process, from ID of the 1st part number, superseding part number, and possible manufacturer cross reference of those (when no longer a good number) is time consuming, but often can be fruitful if your willing to put in the effort.
