Who currently makes a presure relief valve for a original radiator?
Looking for a part number or company that sells
My radiator works and holds presure but I don't have a presure relief valve for it. Mine is original with relief valve where overflow comes out

Isn't that a "zero-pressure" radiator? That honeycomb design core will start springing leaks if more than about 4 PSI is applied to it. The vent canister can be disassembled and cleaned by rolling the crimp back on the top and soldering it back together after a cleanup, assuming you can find a radiator repairman who still remembers how to solder.

It's a spring clip holding that cap on but the presure relief valve that goes inside is missing.
Since this picture was taken had a small crack repaird and had it tested and passed but had to find a way to plug this hole to test

Put a rubber disc over the hole, backed by a VERY light weight spring. Sort of a one-way check valve.

James: You didn't mention the year or model number of your truck. Some trucks came with (or had dealer installed) HD radiators that had the radiator pressure valve shown on the left side of the top tank in your picture. In that case the radiator cap would have a gasket that would not allow overflow at the radiator fill tube. The petcock on the right side of the top tank is to check coolant level. Listing below is for the pressure relief valve. GMC Maintenance Manual says the valve is set for 4 psi. There are a few paragraphs about the pressure valve in the Maintenance Manual, but it isn't rocket science. Let me know if you'd like me to scan and post them.

James Price Haven't seen one of those in a long time, that big radiator is really a powerful cooler my big chevy never offers to overheat with the same thing, except just the cap. Good luck with your fix . You know with that tall ( above the coolant) neck if it is pressure cap friendly couldn't you protect it there ?? Might need to install (sweat-in) an overflow tube with hose. Just a thought.

I bought an electronic copy ( .pdf file ) of the 39-53 GMC Light Duty Truck Master Parts Book from forum member SlimSix. Contact him via private message or maybe he will see this message and respond with current price info. Below is the 1st page.

Hey Andy, do I get a sales commission? wink

He's probably looking at the GM Master Parts Book.

You can download it from The Old Car Manual Project or buy one from Rock Auto or the usual suspects.

Here's the GM interchange parts manual for 1929 - 1959 (Chevy, GMC Truck, Olds, Buick, Pontiac) $19

Why fuss with a book? Use the GM parts wiki.

James,

Very sure that was some serious effort in sourcing your needed part. Good job! yahoo

On a side note, am sure folks would love to know more details about this “junk yard truck” you have access to.

Maybe you could share this in a post in the Stovebolt Spotting Alert Network forum???

Thanks thumbs_up

Dan

Because GM parts wiki only has two books for GMC, 1951 and 1955-1965. When you are looking for a GMC only part you need the parts books.
The 51 book shows the part (pressure relief valve) in Group 6.0180 as 2233181
The 55-65 book shows the part in Group 6.0180 and 6.2065 as 580500
Two different part numbers with no link to eachother.
So you would probably look for the part using P/N 2233181. But if you had the Master Part Book 39-54 or a more current 54 book, in Group 6.0180 580500 replaces 2233181now you have the link and two numbers to search for. Then go back to the 55-65 book and in Group 6.2065, 580500 replaces 580476. Now you have three 2233181,580500 and 580476.
Chevy did not use this part.
