I cannot find an illustration showing the hood bumpers that attach to the underside of the hood . I've attached pics for the area in question. I noticed the hood is hitting the two front bolts attaching the baffle to the header bar ( FAM Sect 11 sheet 2.04 ). Looks like the rubber bumpers attached to the upper baffle are too short to do their job. The listed part number for the bumper in the FAM section is 3676360 . Wiki search revealed that the bumpers part number 3676360 is 3/4 x 3/4 per the 1954 P&A Manual but shown as 3/4 O.D x 13/32 (.406" ) thick in the P&A Catalog Feb 1961. The ones in the kit from Classic parts are .340" thick so there's a problem right there. I found what appear to be close to correct at Steele Rubber, their 33-0680-42 is 1/2" thick (.500"). Somewhere / somehow I determined that the two rubber bumpers attached to the underside of the hood (shown in my pics) are supposed to close against the lock plate but I'm having a tough time finding an illustration that verifies this. All input appreciated, including the part where I may be wrong or blind or both.

On my 1950, those bumpers are on the radiator support but there are no holes that I can see on the hood for them so they probably changed the design in 1954 and put them on the hood where yours are.

FAM Sect 11 sheet 2.04 shows those bumpers outboard of the hood latch on the upper baffle, not where your picture shows them on the hood. That might be your problem.

Kevin , I suppose I didn't do a good job of explaining my issue. The ones shown on the radiator grille upper baffle plate are installed. I just didn't include a photo because I'm trying to locate an illustration that shows the two mounted on the hood as shown in the photo. I back tracked and found that Classic parts indicates those are required and that they contact the lock plate when the hood is closed, their kit comes with 4 thick bumpers and 6 thin bumpers. Jim Carters "Kit" also contains 4 of the "thick" bumpers along with the six thinner ones (three for each side of the hood ). I'm looking for some illustration regarding the Hood.

Ron, it was probably me that misunderstood.

Looking at your middle picture, are the two bolts straddling the safety catch opening the ones that are hitting? If I recall correctly, those bolts on mine were pan head with clutch driver slots, which would be a little less proud than the hex heads with rim that your bolts appear to be ( a little hard to tell.)

Yes! Even though the FAM shows 4 of the 120834 bolts ( hex head cap screws 5/16-18 x 11/16 ) with the external toothed washers....seems to me that what you described is what I removed. I contacted Jim Carter and they opened up a package of their "kit" and measured the thickness of the bumpers and advised 1/2" . I ordered them and I'll install them when they get here and do the notebook paper shim test and provide feedback. If that doesn't fix it, I'll switch to the pan head bolts. For reasons I don't understand, I've gotten on this originality kick and lost my "whatever works". Thanks for the help Kevin, much appreciated.
