Local yard had an AD truck so I went to see today, looking for a seat frame with or without springs. No luck. It is a 51 3100 with a babbitt 235, RPD fuel pump, full of clean oil. Three on the tree trans and torque rear. Sitting on 4 tires. Cracked driver's side glass. Windshield good. Traces of the cardboard door panels. Glove box door intact. Radio delete panel and knob button covers there. Floor not rotted out. Bed totally rotted out. No tailgate but the bed sides looked remarkably good as did the fenders. Grill straight. Front chrome bumper no dents looks like it will clean up. Homemade rear bumper. Russell's Junkyard. Petersburg, Va. Sorry, no pics. Left my phone in the truck.

Price? Any chance there's a title available?

Yes, that's the place. Right off of Int. 85. A phone call can find out about the title. Good country folks. BTW, has auto choke Roch B. Choke closed,with acorns on top. I put the breather back on. Jethro.

Be a 70 mile round trip. Anyone really serious and I could go back. Might have to pull that RPD fuel pump for my trouble ( I'll stick an old junker in place to cover the hole.) BTW... the radiator looked good too... no green corrosion and all hoses intact. Even the heater hoses to the Arvin heater. Jethro.

This subject was part of a discussion started by SuziQ in the Driveline about radiators ... costs, new, used, etc.

The topic included a comment by 2ManyTrucks about looking in a wrecking yard. Otto Skorzeny lamented: "Where does anybody find a wrecking yard with AD trucks in them, let alone one that still has usable parts?"

And 2ManyTrucks said, "This forum might benefit from a specific topic or section about known wrecking yards and their location with the latest information from Bolter visits. I think that would be neat."

So, here we are!

I visited a big yard in Nebraska that had quite a few older vehicles, including quite a few AD series Chevy's.

LOL ask me how I know how big it is. I found a bumper and splash apron that I bought from him in the far NE corner, and drug it out thru the mud (which stuck to my boots making me about 4" taller than I really am), coming out at the SW corner and then having to walk back to his shop. I left the bumper at the road, showed him a pic of my find and negotiated the price, then drove down and picked it up. My wife saw me walking up the road and was worried I wasn't going to make it. I was definitely beat.

My local junkyard still has older stuff,found an AD with a 7 wire signal stat switch still OK. Found a stop and tail light when I opened it black paint was still bright and shiny ,was up under the bed,protected. There is still stuff out there,ask them about a steering shaft to mount AD wheel on to do some restore work. They said go down over the hill (creek bottom where water gets over them) find a beater for that. Good place to buy used batteries too ! Bought a lot of 1$ 7 inch headlamps pairs even. About 10 miles off of interstate 70 near Casey (kasee) Il.

Not exactly close to my home in Bel Air, MD but stovebolters should look at Desert Valley Auto Parts (DVAP)'s Caste Grande, AZ location has many Advance Design Series GM and Chevrolet parts and even project trucks. I have been there twice between coming and going for work. I bought only items that could fit in my suitcase. They have a number of parts just for these trucks off in a corner of the gigantic yard. Plenty of sheet metal parts like fenders, hoods, and items that you would need to restore your trucks and panels/burbs. You could google DVAP and even see the project trucks they have for sale. Found a guy (Gary) in Athol, ID...just down the road from the theme park 'Silverwood', that just does AD trucks. He used to advertise in 'craigslist', but haven't seen him recently.
Bought a bunch of stuff from him about 18 month ago. At the time he was asking if I wanted to buy him out, being he was looking to retire.
He had cabs, doors, fenders, bumpers and boxes of smaller stuff for inside/outside parts. All original.
Looking for his business card, being I need some of the smaller stuff to finish the 'rusto-mod' this spring...and hoping he is still around. I don't want new, cheaply made parts when I can get the old and fix up.

Great idea, perhaps should organize by state? Would that get too bulky? Or wait for someone to ask for input in their area, then only local persons need reply, but that will eliminate any kept history?

Haven't been to it in a few years, but there's Little Valley Auto Ranch in Belton, TX that specializes in older cars/trucks. Picked up several pieces for my '58 there.

Also if you have a pick a part yard nearby, keep an eye on those. The local one sometimes gets older stuff in.

It might be a decent side lot feature, but more helpful maybe to all, like me roaming the country for parts as a PDF or Tech tip organized by State.

A Hundred years ago or so there was a "Links" page on the BOLT. I know that keeping up with Links is a nightmare. I think this become a "Sticky" on the Swap Meet, members could add contact information and search for wrecking yards in their area.

Sorry for chiming in so late to the conversation.

Out most of the day visiting family in various Southern and Western Wisconsin areas before tonight/tomorrow's snow storm comes to pay a visit.

When I first saw this thread, my initial thought was maybe it would better fit in the Swap Meets "Stovebolt Spotting Alert Network" forum???

The spotting of available resources, along with where they are found kind a fits right in that forum's niche.

Folks could post as they find stuff, or share known info there (or here works too).

As far as trying to keep the info up to date, maybe addition to the guidelines to ask anyone visiting an identified/shared location that they post an update to the available info to keep it current???

Just some thinking out loud for now.

I also think there is merit in the suggestion to add a dedicated thread "sticky" that people can add posts to in each of the "Side Lots" to give the info a regional connection. Everyone can read whats in the "Side Lots", so if they're interested, they can go take a look. Especially if maybe they are planning a road trip to one of those areas. Yes/No/Maybe So???

Anywho, food for thought.

My thoughts are to make this a sticky here in GTT with just name, address, phone # and location of each yard noted in a single post and organized by state. Maybe a couple notes on what was found there. It would take some regular editing to keep it from becoming unwieldy. Bolters could post new locations which would then get incorporated in the first post in the thread and then delete the other posts, such as this one and others. No links, as they are too much trouble to keep updated.

If there was a forum in the Swap meet that it could be posted as a sticky, then that would be a better location, but I don't see a good spot there, unless it was in the "Stovebolt Spotting Alert Network" like Dan suggested. I could probably do the editing, along with other moderators as needed.

klhansen Yes that is it,only one yard more like a farm. Their supply of junk cars I think mostly came off of I-70. The middle son was the wrecker guy,they always had a well equipped wrecker. Sadly Benny has passed on I think only mid fifties,his son is stepping up,younger brother runs the yard,older brother handles the farm. Best thing about this place you can do your own shopping. At least I can it's coming up on sixty years, I remember the boys as little kids around there !! Go in belly-up to the wood stove,head out into the yard,come back thaw out do it again.

Some good suggestions and good input with more "yards." That's funny, Kevin, hearing about all your travels. Here, I thought you were a home-body.

I'm thinking once we get a list set up, it won't be too hard for someone(s) to keep it managed. Thinking a "sticky" that is not locked. Since it has to mainly do with looking for parts, SM is still the best location. On occasion, the Side Lot groups may make an event out of a Junk Yard Tour. The ODSS had them regularly, with some pre- and post- stuff added in. I recall ODSS had a lot of fun with it ... even in cold weather. (Do a search for "Junk Yard Tour.") Not sure about other Side Lotters.

Pondering pondering ... keep at it.

There was a junkyard in Texas with over 500 1940s-1960s Cadillacs in it. The owner died a few years ago and whatever didn't sell at auction went to the crusher.

A similar junkyard here in Georgia with hundreds of cars from the 30s through the 80s was ordered shut by the government for environmental reasons. Many complete cars and trucks with rare parts were scrapped.

Guys, try to keep this to yards that have Stovebolts and are still in existence. We need this to be a happy thread, not pics of crushed 'Bolts.

I'll add Dan's Garage in Kennewick, WA. He specializes in 40s-70s GM. It's where I bought my '54 and he has several more stovebolts both Chevy and GMC at the moment, a small sliver of his inventory is on his website https://dansgarage.net/

Dan's Garage looks like a killer place to find parts or project trucks.

I missed that on my trip thru Washington in '19 and was thru there in 2017 as well. I would have stopped by if I had known about it.

klhansen Went to Stutesman's junk yard on Friday Feb. 24 th.23 They were in fine form,have a big forklift they pick up cars with ,rip the gas tank out of it peal anything off that is sold get it ready for the crusher. I helped Brian pour about 10 gallons of gasoline out of the tank. Next was an f 150 totaled same thing. Had hoped to look at AD truck supply but was cold and muddy,bellied up to sycamore fired heating stove. Was hunting a york a/c compressor,went in the BIG shed it is full of accessories floor to ceiling shelving,then piles in the floor. Out in the yard is a bus full of manifolds when you climb on them your head rubs on the ceiling lot of older stuff in there. Bobby said no york's in there,have to go out and find one in the yard,so gotta go back !!

klhansen Understand about the mud level,stutesman's used to keep hogs and cows in the yard to keep the weeds down,every gap between vehicles would have water filled tracks or in dry weather deep rough tracks !! I think they burnt out on fence building. Have to go back there,will try to check on AD,TF,67 thru 72, pretty sure there are 216's still under a hood...crusher pile is 3 cars deep,not sure they let just anyone go in anymore. Saturday 2-25-23 the deputy showed up to see about a tow -in took a purse with him.So their up to speed.

Just got back from another run to stutesmans junk yard,picked up a york A/C compressor says motorcraft right on it. Several 216 and 235 leftovers but most are weathered beyond service,few TF trucks but really rough,67 thru 72 all rough, some fair square body stuff,lot of ferd they lean that way. one 7 inch headlamp still just a buck. So there you go !
