Anyone ever put a 1.5 ton on a later model 1 ton chassis? I have a 56 4400 and am considering putting it on a later model (70s-80s) 1 ton dually frame. Maybe with a widened 56 chevy stepside bed to fit over the dual wheels. Make like a hot rod dually out of it. Any Ideas?

Here's one:

It's a '46, but still the same idea.

Very cool. I was thinking of doing exactly that, but with a '56.

If you're not adverse to useing fiberglass, ther are 'glass rear fenders availible that are 3" wider than stock. you might be able to save widening the bed too much if you use those.

Thanks for the tip LONGBOX55. Who sells them? Also does anyone know the width from bed side to bed side of a task force era step side bed? Im wondering if the 6 extra inches from the 'glass fenders would clear the dual wheels.

American classic, brother's, and Chevy Duty have them. I just measuerd the 3200, it's about 51" on the outside of the bedsides, you might have to put a mini-tub inside the bed to clear the duals.

Thanks Bill. Looks like "chevy duty" is now called "classic parts". I see they have the fenders, but it says "short bed only!" Why is that? What is the difference in short and long bed fenders?

No difference in the fenders themselves, it's the running boards that are different. They don't have the tapered boards for the longer wheel base trucks, only the short ones. Of course nobody ever said that you couldn't fab your own. grin
