Engine quit like I turned the key off. Called a buddy and he towed me back to the shop. Installed a 30+ year old used Standard condenser I had on hand and back in business. Crying shame none are US made anymore. Have another old Standard left in reserve.

| | | | | Joined: Oct 2021 Posts: 6,781 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2021 Posts: 6,781 | The last "good" condenser I had before changing everything over to the Goodman condenser was made in Mexico and was on my Cadillac. It lasted about 7 or 8 years.
I'm surprised your new one from NAPA came from Mexico. They're all made in China now. That one must have been on the shelf for a long time.

If they say Made in Mexico, I don't know of anyone down there still making those, so they could be old stock. What I've learned is that except for a few (for BSA motorcycles and English Fords sold in Italy), they're all made in China by the same outfit. The BSA condensers are made in India and the ones for the Italian model of English Fords were made in Argentina but aren't being made there now...folks are selling old production.
I just ordered more of the capacitors used in these, by the way. I don't know what is going to happen with the cost of brass, but I was able to get very close to the same price on the capacitors by purchasing them in the UK. So I'm hopeful the cost will stay pretty much the same this year.
