Is it best to put latch assembly in first then the window channel or vise versus. I think I remember the channel was in the way to remove latch. Memory is shot

Having the latch go in first seems to make things easier for assembly.

Yes, the window channel is in the way of the latch. You might be able to get the latch in afterward, but it isn't worth the trouble. Put the latch in first.

Don't make the same mistake I did! 100% agree with everyone's take on assembly sequence so far but I'll add my two cents. I disassembled my doors 8 months ago. I intended to replace all the innards so I did not spend any time studying how they would go back together. My goal was to leave all exterior trim off until post paint. With both doors assembled I did the initial test fit and alignment this weekend and was satisfied with the result. Here's the rub. My '48 has the SS trim at the door glass openings. When I looked closely at the trim I discovered there are retaining tabs that go under the run channel felts!

The doors are coming off anyway, but now I'll probably end up disassembling both doors to install the trim. While I'm at it, I'm going to cut-in the exterior color around the window openings. Hope this little bit of heartburn saves someone some time.

I am in a similar place except I took my doors apart 2 years ago.

Now that I have the doors sheet metal repairs complete (well almost) I am contemplating how to put the insides back together. Discovered that the driver's side rear windwo track was broken, small part still attached to the door but the majority was in my parts pile. Needed to replace the driver's side door inside handle mechanism as the shaft was broken off at the spline. I bought replacement rollers for the window tracks but have not installed them yet.

Still planning on paint before I actually get to the glass and wipers/seals, etc. related to the windows so I may procrastinate a while longer on the guts of the doors.

Most of the vendors have replacement felt channel tracks for the rear that extends below the window sill. One of mine was toast, so I bought a replacement.
