Has anyone bought this Ring & Pinion for their 55 2nd to 57 Chevy Truck? The price is $392.99. If I was to put this in my truck, what other seals, bearings would a guy need?
And on a difficulty range of 1 to 10 (10 being very hard), where would it fall do you think? For the $330 it looks like you get two pieces only, literally just the ring and pinion.
Lastly, is there a better source than Eckler's? Thanks for any help.

Other's will be along to answer on install.
There is an "Install" kit which includes seals, bearings bushings, gaskets, ect.
I believe Classicparts , Chevsofthe40's and Fillingstation carries both ring & pinion sets and Install kits.
Good luck

Thanks, Classicparts is $50 cheaper, and i see the install kits, complete and lite versions. I assume a guy would just want to buy the complete install kit. Any guesses on what a shop would charge to do this vs having a guy who does it on the side and is reputable?
Thanks Shaffer's1950!!!

I have no idea what it would cost these days. Others will chime in soon. Good luck!

My WAG on installation would be in the $1000 plus range at a shop.

I have a GM 8.5" 10 bot rear end in my truck. I'm thinking of rebuilding it. There are kits available and lots of youtube videos on how to do it.

I think you will need a kit as well as the gear set. e.g. https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/w...=10151&catalogId=10051&langId=-1

Compared to a closed driveline setup, the open driveline is easier in my opinion having done both. If you have a good attention to detail, and a well written set of directions and the tools it can be done in a one-car garage. Having a press or a friend that does, will help.

LOL
Sometimes it does seem double. But that was just a Wild-A$$-Guess on my part.

I agree that a reasonably skilled shade-tree mechanic could get the job done by carefully paying attention to instructions.

Maybe I missed something but Classic Parts lists a 3.38:1 ring and pinion for the 55-62 trucks and a 3.55:1 gear set for the 47-54 vehicles. They are not the same.
Maybe Ecklers may have something new for TF trucks, but I don't think so. Be sure you are looking at the correct parts before you buy a bunch of stuff that won't fit.
