I guess that truck of yours is referred to as the Flat Face Cowl 6502 Model. If the windshield was included its called Windshield Cowl. Shipping weight of the 6502 is 4380 lbs. That is just the Chevrolet stuff not including the aftermarket body etc.

Frame: Channel side rails, 7 cross members, Rails 9 1/8 x 3 x 1/4 inches, Section Modulus 9.41. Rear axle 7.20 to 1. Have more info if needed.

Your front fender emblems are on the wrong sides. Picky me.

I just drag the picture into the little box to post pictures, no typing needed.

Any idea what the cab is from? I doubt it was completely made up from scratch. Maybe a Volvo or MAN

I understand! Thanks very much for the info! I don't know about the windshield, I haven't seen any other 57 chevys with split windshield though so I assumed it was part of the swedish cab.

Haha, I hadn't even noticed the emblems. Gonna look into that and see if I can put them on correctly. Or maybe just leave it, as a testament to the GM nordic build quality haha.

According to the info from a Swedish forum there should be an identifying builders plaque or something similar somewhere in the cab, but I haven't been able to find it... Maybe it's missing or just well hidden. If I do find it I'll report back!

I did some digging and you may actually be onto something, look at this Volvo L370 fire truck from 1955 and compare the aluminium side trim and door handles to those on my truck:

That's it. It is a Volvo.

The windshield shape and door handles are also identical. Nobody is going to scratch build scalloped door handle pockets like that.

Notice also the door hinges. The two upper hinges visible on the Volvo are in the exact position as those on your truck.

So is this truck a Volvrolet or is it a Chevrolo?

Gentlemen, now that we have established what this truck is fabricated from, can we get back on subject? Les we forgot, This is the “Engine Shop“.

When I first got my non running truck, I rebuilt the Rochester B carb, then took it apart two more times positive it was a fuel issue. It turned out to be a bad condenser. Once I changed it, it started right up and ran great.

Well, actually... It's probably not a Volvo-mix after all. Got some more info from a Swedish Vintage Truck forum, and according to the info there the chances of the cab being Volvo made is pretty much nonexistent. The similarities between parts is according to their experts more likely to be fire engine specific rather than volvo specific, and the cabs were most likely built by various coach builders around the country after the trucks came here as flat face cowls. Gonna have to see about finding that manufacturers plate...

You're right, pardon the off topic discussion. It's easy to get sidetracked.

Is there any way to test the condition of a condenser or is it simply a matter of "might be bad, switch it out"?

If you installed a new condenser along with points and rotor, I'd just put the original one back on and see what happens.

A 60 year old condenser is better than the Chinese new ones. In the meantime, get one of Jon Goodman's 200,000 hr condensers.
