Hi Folks!

Name's Anton, 32 year old from Sweden, and I just joined this forum as I recently purchased a 1957 Chevrolet 6500 Fire Truck with a 261 engine. I affectionately refer to this girl as "Ignis", as in the latin word for fire. I thought I'd post a quick slideshow for you all, in case you're interested smile

www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6sOZhWUld8 [youtube.com]

She came to Sweden through the GM Nordic division, from what I've been able to find out she was put likely together at the Copenhagen factory as far as chassis, drivetrain and front goes, and then she was delivered to Sweden and was built up as a fire Truck. So basically, the body from the firewall and back was most likely Swedish built, but I haven't found out by whom... If anyone knows I'd be very interested to know! It's an interesting construction with sheet panels nailed to a wooden frame, which has sadly seen better days and needs a total rebuild...

I have gone over the engine and done some basic maintenance in preparation of waking her from her long slumber, changed the oil and filter, ignition coil, leads, spark plugs, fuel pump and have gone over the carb, as well as some electrical wiring needing to be redone (mice). I have managed to get her started but not running quite well just yet, I suspect carb issues so if anyone feels like helping me out with that I have a thread in the technical department. Any and all help is greatly appreciated! smile

Cheers!

/Anton.

Welcome to Stovebolt wave

Neat truck thumbs_up

Here in the USA your truck would be a model 6502 Flat Face Cowl.

It's hard to believe they were still building bodies with wooden frames in '57...

I owned a 1957 10500 Fire engine for almost 20 years, you can click on the link to my story below my signature.

Thanks very much! thumbs_up

Yeah, it's a bit unusual for sure. It would be nice to find out who actually vuilt the body but I haven't been able to find out any information on that...

That is one gorgeous Truck, really nice! thumbs_up

I got some additional pictures of Swedish Chevy firetrucks through a Swedish vintage truck forum. It's interesting to see the similarities and differences between my truck and these. Seems like most Swedish GM Firetrucks came here as Flat Face Cowls as none of them have the period correct GM bodies, they seem to have all been built here in Sweden by various local coach builders.

Hey guys.

Hope you don't mind, I posted this in the International Zone so can have another spot that may interest folks in your neighborhood.

Expecially those cool fire trucks you posted.

We can "carry on" in there. Maybe not bother people with such hijacks and hijinks wink in the technical forums. grin

Tack
