I'm Anton, 32 years old and from the south of Sweden, and attached below are some pics my 1957 Chevrolet 6500/86 heavy duty fire truck whom I affectionately refer to as Ignis (as in Latin for fire).
As you can see, she was in a pretty sad state. She'd been sitting for a long while. Managed to get hear cleaned up somewhat and wouldn't you know, there was a truck under all that moss and crap! Last pic I got from the previous owner. That's what she looked like when he got her. I hope to be able to restore her to her former glory.
She's equipped with a 261 engine and a manual gearbox. She came to Sweden via the GM Nordic division. From what I've been able to find out, she was put together at the Copenhagen factory as far as chassis, drivetrain and front. Then she was delivered to Sweden and was furnished as a fire Truck.
So basically, the body from the firewall and back was most likely Swedish built, but I haven't found out by whom. It's an interesting construction with sheet panels nailed to a wooden frame which has sadly seen better days and needs a total rebuild.
I have gone over the engine and done some basic maintenance in preparation of waking her from her long slumber. Changed the oil and filter, ignition coil, leads, spark plugs, fuel pump and have gone over the carb, as well as some electrical wiring needing to be redone (mice).
I have managed to get her started but not running quite well just yet. I suspect carb issues so if anyone feels like helping me out with that I have a thread in the shops department. Feel free to offer your input there. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

It looks like it cleaned up pretty good. I like the way the cab flows back to the box. One of my favourite blacksmiths is in Sweden. HERE IS a YT video.
He has a lot of interests other than blacksmithing, but I haven't seen him with any old vehicles.

Welcome to Stovebolt! Nice project you have there. From your post I hear some Skånska. Myself, I am up around Lidköping, a bit far to pop by and help you with your carb, which is probably a good thing considering my limited experience. Keep us informed. Karl

For sure! Mine's a bit cold too, got an electric heater in there but it's not insulated so that barely brings it up to freezing lol. Gotta get around to insulating and maybe put a small diesel heater or something in there, then maybe it'd be tolerable.
We can "carry on" in there. I'm thinking some folks may enjoy the chit chat. Others in the Welcome Centre can, ah, continue to "welcome you."

Good idea Peg, I've posted some pics in your thread hoping to draw out any and all lurking swedes on the forum. Mostly stuff I've already posted but that's all I have for now, will update once I make progress and take some new pics.
Sorry about the lack of updates. I got a really bad strep infection in my left thumb and haven't been able to work on the project since. I thought I had a normal cold and a sore throat because of that, but apparently I had a Strep A infection in my throat which somehow made its way into a tiny little scratch on my left thumb and 8 hours later I was in the emergency care unit having surgery to try and save whatever could be saved of my left hand. I got extremely lucky, they even managed to save the infected thumb! Although they did have to remove about half of the soft tissue and replace it with a graft from my forearm. Apparently a lot of people aren't so lucky, a high percentage of patients are forced to amputate and many of them lose not only the immediately infected body part but surrounding bits as well so... I was very lucky.
Sadly I had to undergo multiple surgeries, not only due to the transplant but to try and physically flush the infection out of my hand, and it has left me with reduced sensitivity and grip strength in my left thumb/hand, so mechanical work is going to be difficult for a while. I promise I'll be back with an update once I get working on the project again!
WOW!! Sounds like a rough one! Glad things turned out as well as they did. Sounds like it could have been much worse. Hope the recovery continues to go well.
Holy Mackeral! You're the second person I've heard about that this happened to recently. One of the guys in my Cadillac club scratched his leg, started feeling sick, and 3 or 4 days later the doctors were talking about amputating his leg! Strep was the culprit.
Fortunately they were able to save him and his leg but he was in the hospital for a month.
Glad to hear you're ok. Hopefully you're right handed!

Thanks guys. It has been one hell of an experience for sure... But hey, could have gone much worse so I'm not complaining. Now I just need to focus on rehab and getting the sensation of feel and grip strength in my thumb/hand back to normal, then I can hopefully start working on the truck again! As it stands I have about half my normal grip strength in my left hand, and sensation in the thumb is very dull. Having trouble feeling what kind of objects and materials I am touching, or if I'm touching anything at all... But hopefully it'll get better with rehab training!
And yes, luckily I'm right handed so that's something at least!

So glad to hear you have just a positive attitude. I think staying focused on rehab is excellent plan of attack. Please keep us posted on your accomplishments!
