The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Pinstripe Tape

Looking to do pinstripe around the cab beltline on my '50 Chevy. The truck is Forester Green, and was striped with Cream Medium. I have found vinyl striping tape from vinylstriping.com that is 1/8", premium 2 mil. vinyl, with a stated life of 9-12 years. The brand is Avery900 Super Cast. The closest color to the cream medium that I see is their Almond. Before I bail off into this, has anyone had any experience with this product and does anyone have any comments, suggestions that might help me out? Thanks beforehand.

IMO, the tape looks too perfect. Using pinstripe stencil tape to paint them on looks to perfect. Since I'm not a pinstriper, how I used to do it was laydown some masking tape where I wanted the stripe to be. Then, lay down another masking tape about 1/8" ( or whatever gap you want ) from the first one. Then, get a pint of your favorite color of One Shot, and lay it on there. The subtle variations of gap make it almost look hand striped. And I really should break out my Buegler Pinstripe tool. But, that's just me.

Roger that, on the looking too perfect. I may try laying up the masking tape to see how well I can control the gap width before i buy anything in the paint or striping tape area. My problem is that when I start trying to do something as tedious as that, my hands get shaky as a cat squirrel on crack! But, that might work to my advantage, in making the stripe not look so perfect.

Another cheat. Lay down the size pinstripe where you want in fineline tape, then apply masking on either side, then pull the fineline. Proceed to paint.

That'll work. Make a few bobbles in the lay-up of the masking, and we have the look of freehand striping. I appreciate the idea.
